Hello, dear readers
Do you remember the days when we would spend hours in a music store, flipping through CDs and vinyl records, eagerly anticipating the treasures hidden within? Those were the days of entire albums, experienced from start to finish, each song deliberately placed to create a journey.
Nowadays, in the age of streaming, how do you listen to music? Are you a playlist aficionado, or picking and choosing individual tracks to match your mood? Or do you, like me, still cherish the experience of listening to complete albums?
Appreciate the effort for albums
For me, the album experience is irreplaceable. At home, my vast collection of CDs, vinyl records and even music tapes is my sanctuary. I immerse myself in the music, letting it wash over me from the opening track to the final note. The song order, the gaps between tracks, the album artwork, the lyrics, and the liner notes – they all form a cohesive narrative that the artist has painstakingly crafted, with lots of time, energy and - if an indie artist - money spent.
Me, also an indie artist, who knows the effort for a complete album, very appreciate this work. And: Listening to such work is my Ego-Time, where I engage deeply and consciously with the music.
Nordic Walking with albums
Another beloved activity of mine for Ego-Time is Nordic walking. Alone, surrounded by nature, I find peace and inspiration. Whether it’s the stunning views of Lake Constance or the serene paths of the Lainzer Tiergarten in Vienna, I combine two of my favourite things: walking and music. Through the streaming app Tidal, I listen to entire albums, letting the music elevate my walks.
What about you?
But enough about me – I’m curious about you! How do you listen to music in today’s digital age? Do you still enjoy full albums, or have playlists become your go-to? And what constitutes your ego-quality time?
If you'd like to join me on my Nordic walking adventures and see what I'm listening to, you can follow along on my Instagram account, where I've highlighted "Sport Music" in my stories. Alternatively, check out my updates on Twitter under the hashtag #SportIsMoreFunWithMusic.
Until next time, happy listening and enjoy your quality time!
With musical love
Nathalie
